Lenovo ThinkReality VRX: a headset for businesses

- Categories :

Virtual reality (VR) is profoundly reshaping the way companies approach training, collaboration and innovation. The Lenovo ThinkReality VRX all-in-one headset is positioning itself as a key player in this revolution, offering immersive experiences to meet the specific requirements of professional environments. We have tested it at Immersion and give you our opinion.

Beyond the screen: total immersion

Lenovo's ThinkReality VRX features Qualcomm®'s Snapdragon™ XR processor, a smooth 90Hz refresh rate and a 95° field of view. Features that position this headset is on a par with its competitors, if not surpassing them when it comes to resolution (2280 x 2280 pixels per eye), offering high fidelity of detail and color for mixed reality applications.

Designed for business, built for the future

Unlike consumer solutions, ThinkReality VRX is designed specifically to meet the rigorous demands of professional environments. Its dedicated construction and hygienic materials ensure long-term durability and reliable operation. Whether for wired or wireless use, with locally stored or cloud-based content, ThinkReality VRX offers flexibility, tailored to the ever-changing needs of businesses. Lenovo's reputation in the professional world is also a major asset. Recognized in particular as a key player in the workstation market, it is possible to offer complete bundles for the XR, accompanied by services and professional support. Lenovo has also surrounded itself with a number of partner editors, who provide solutions directly compatible with VRX and responding to specific use cases or sectors of activity, to simplify integration.

On the security side, privacy certification and the absence of data collection reinforce the security and confidentiality of sensitive business information. In addition to its in-house solution, Lenovo has paid particular attention to compatibility with the market's leading MDMs (Mobile Device Management), such as VMWare's Workspace One and Microsoft Intune. Finally, with OpenXR on Unity & Unreal Engine, ThinkReality VRX is a versatile, open platform, ready to evolve with changing business needs. These are all assets to be taken into account when considering medium- to long-term deployment issues.

The Immersion expert's opinion on the Lenovo ThinkReality VRX headset

Our expert has tested the Lenovo ThinkReality VRX headset for you, and gives us his opinion.

The Lenovo headset is an XR headset designed above all for businesses, which are more interested in 3D model review, 3D collaboration or training. It comes with a wide range of applications and software features (CloudXR in particular). The menu, interface and environment are simple and uncluttered, making use of the headset intuitive and fluid.

The Lenovo ThinkReality headset is pleasant to wear, whether in terms of materials, weight distribution or controllers, making it a pleasure to use. It doesn't disturb when worn, although it's important to note that the headset may bother people wearing glasses. Unlike a Quest Pro or a Pico4, it has two RGB cameras offering very good quality PassThrough HD in color, closer to a Quest 3, which favors the creation of mixed reality applications. On the negative side, the Lenovo headset lacks some of the features usually found on competitors' headsets, such as hand and face tracking.

Natively, the headset supports NVIDIA CloudXR, enabling powerful, immersive XR applications with advanced graphics to be streamed from the Cloud or a Data Center directly into the headset. For development purposes, the headset features a Snapdragon Spaces SDK, available for Unity and Unreal, making it easy to develop headset-compatible applications.  In terms of price positioning, it's in the same bracket as the Focus 3 (VR only) and Quest Pro.

Immersive training and advanced simulation

Where ThinkReality VRX really excels is in its role as a pioneer in virtual training and advanced simulations. The six degrees of freedom enable complex environments to be simulated with remarkable precision, delivering tangible benefits. Studies have shown a significant reduction in the risk of injury in the workplace, by up to 43%. This is more than just a figure - it's a concrete illustration of how ThinkReality VRX contributes to worker health and safety.

Comfort for extended sessions

The ThinkReality VRX's design has been meticulously crafted to ensure optimum comfort during extended sessions. Innovative pancake lenses enhance visual clarity while reducing form factor, while the rear-positioned battery ensures balanced weight distribution, facilitating extended wear without discomfort.
