Collaborative 3D visualization plays a central role in engineering, design, and project review environments. The Co4Two system offers a 3D visualization experience for two users simultaneously, without the need for virtual reality headsets.

By combining ultra-short-throw projection, spatial tracking, and active 3D glasses, Co4Two aims to make the immersive experience more natural and, above all, more collaborative.

A 3D experience designed for two users

One of Co4Two’s fundamental principles is the management of two simultaneous perspectives. Each user experiences a 3D view that corresponds to their actual position in space.

Unlike traditional immersive devices that isolate users, Co4Two allows for direct interaction between participants. Verbal exchanges, gestures, and the shared interpretation of the 3D scene thus become more fluid and natural.

A 3D visualization system based on projection and tracking

Co4Two is a collaborative 3D visualization system based on several integrated components:

- an ultra-short-throw laser projector (0.233:1 throw ratio)

- a spatial tracking system based on ART’s SMARTTRACK3

- synchronized active 3D glasses

Spatial tracking is directly integrated into the projection system and requires no calibration.

The display uses high-frequency projection, up to 240 Hz in collaboration mode, to ensure a stable stereoscopic experience for two users.

An alternative to VR headsets for collaborative use

Co4Two is primarily designed for environments where collaboration is key:

- reviewing 3D models

- product engineering and design

- technical demonstrations

- team discussions on a shared project

By eliminating the need for VR headsets, the solution facilitates natural interactions and nonverbal communication among users while maintaining a shared 3D view.

Integration with professional 3D software

The system is compatible with a wide range of industry-standard software, including:

- Unity

- Unreal Engine

- Siemens PLM Teamcenter Visualization

- TechViz

- ESI IC.IDO

- SkyReal

- Shariiing Review

- Fraunhofer CoVR

This compatibility allows for seamless integration into existing workflows without requiring a major shift in the tools used.

Toward a more natural collaboration

With Co4Two, collaborative 3D visualization takes a different approach from traditional immersive methods. By eliminating the need for virtual reality headsets while retaining stereoscopic projection and precise spatial tracking, the system offers an experience designed primarily for two-user collaboration and decision-making.

This approach emphasizes ease of interaction and seamless collaboration within a shared 3D environment, in contexts where direct collaboration remains essential.
